Last month I spoke of my excitement of the unnamed game by Gamious, which got its name "iO" by public vote / demand.
Today "iO" will be reaching the OUYA store and you should get yourself a copy, I spent a good while even on just the demo having a blast with all the puzzles contained in the first few levels, the mind boggles on what the later levels contain. I'm not one to rage quit, but I suspect Ill need a clear zen like state to get past some challenging stages that await.
Even though its a different type of game, it does have a feel of the fiendish puzzles that were in the PlayStation One classic, Kula World; head scratchingly do-able. Plus you can play this game as fast or as slow as you like, always fun to go back and try and beat your time.
As physics based puzzlers come, they don't come much better than this !!
Before you rush out and buy the game tomorrow, I want to give credit to Gamious; not only for a great game but for their collaboration in its creation.
The game concept was created by a team of five programmers who met at Global Game Jam 2012 in the Netherlands. Gamious' founder Pim was one of the judges on that location, and he was impressed by the game so invited them for a talk in their office. Together they further developed the game into the game it is now as we (will) know it. Gamious could't come up with an original name (Size Matters and Expandaball where some of the work-titles they used) so they went out to Twitter and Social media to get the game named.
Gamious call themselves "The Collaborative Games Company", because they work on project base with developers from all over the globe. Every developer works on revenue share so when a game becomes a hit, everybody wins. From this collaborative point of view, the #NameTheGame contest was born. Players could experience the game for free (trailer, webdemo) and come up with a name.
As a thank you for all the suggestions, Gamious have added the submitted names into the game credits. There where over 300 names submitted, so take some time to have a look out for your suggestion or to laugh / admire others.
I really hope this becomes a big hit on OUYA, the community needs to support devs that create games like this for us to enjoy.
