Blackberry are considering a sale, so whats up for grabs exactly and is there anything of value. The market share for RIM plummeted 33% though 2013 and that's still in free fall since BB10 hit the shelves only this year.

Tough economic conditions, shifting consumer preferences, and intense market competition weakened the worldwide mobile phone market,” Gartner analyst Anshul Gupta said on Wednesday.

There is still a small demand for Blackberry, especially in the business market which still has a fair amount of licenses for Blackberry Enterprise Server, it may have some book value for the business but cant be worth a great deal.

The software maybe worth investing, while the hardware is pretty much dead and unattractive in a world of smartphones from the world of Android, and dare I say it Apple.

Now one area Android have made slow progress in, is the business sector. Could a purchase of RIM from Google mean the BES service being baked into Android too, meaning BES could become open source - wouldn't that be something ?! Apple have started to stomp into RIMs turf while Google have made small progress in BYOD environments.

BBM is hitting multi-platform sometime soon, which is 4 years too late In our opinion. Windows Phone catching up fast with RIM in a close run 3rd place.

“2013 will be the year of the rise of the third ecosystem as the battle between the new BlackBerry 10 and Windows Phone intensifies,” Gupta said.
Would a purchase of RIM just for the commercial book be something Google would consider, I hope they would look at it. They bought Motorola for their patent book, I cant see how this purchase would be any different.
